This beautiful residence nestled at the edge of the forest has already undergone several transformations and extensions. Our project seeks to respond to the clients’ programmatic needs while at the same time restoring prominence to the original house, and creating an extension that is clearly distinct from the aesthetics of the existing building.

Clad in slate tiles and largely open to the landscape in order to bring natural light into the heart of the house, the new structure aims to stand out while blending into the surrounding nature, with vegetation also acting as a sunshade.
The overall volumetry follows this approach by proposing a vaulted form, conceived as a simplification of the geometry of the existing house and its mansard roof. The vault will be entirely constructed in a metal frame. The position of this new volume aligns with the existing northern extension and the southern wall. However, a 50 cm overhang is added on each side to emphasize the architectural presence of the vault and to provide slight solar protection on the south side.
A lightweight metal structure will also be placed in the extension of the vault on the southern side, allowing the development of deciduous climbing plants and thus providing additional summer solar protection.
Architecturally, the extension is conceived as a shell simply placed onto the existing extension. The volume is therefore offset by approximately ten centimeters on the adjoining side in order to highlight the existing masonry façade. The height of this volume is defined by the radius of the vault, which begins in alignment with the cornice of the main building.
